California, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) is one of the risks faced by adult film actors and actresses. Although the pornography industry has implemented a routine examination, cases of transmission of STIs among the porn star continues to rise.
Type of STI that infects most of the porn star is a fungal infection chlamydia, with an average of 14 percent / year. Other infections that are often found among the adult film industry is gonorrhea or gonorrhea with an average of 5 percent / year.
Viewed based on their gender, the female lead is more susceptible of contracting STIs than male actor. Approximately 72 percent of cases of STIs, especially chlamydia and gonorrhea occur in the female lead and only 28 percent of cases that befall men.
In most porn actors and actresses, the transmission of STIs occur not for the first time. As many as 26 percent had contracted for the second time or more and again the risk-return transmission (reinfection) in the female lead of 25 percent higher.
This data is the California Public Health Service research results during the year 2004-2008, which was published recently in the Journal of Sexual Transmitted Diseases. Data were collected according to a report each clinic who were home-grown film production house.
"The standard of protection against the porn star has lagged far behind the current standard of sexual health in other industries," said Binh Y Goldstein, PhD, who conducted the study as quoted from Medicalnewstoday, Friday (24/06/2011).
During this time, the adult film industry to implement the obligation for the cast to sexual health check every 30 days. The result should be negative for all types of STDs and should be reported within 30 days prior to acting out sex scenes.
But according to Goldstein, the absence of the obligation to wear a condom make STI transmission rates remain high and tend to increase. Several types of infection are often not detected when still in the incubation period (the lag time from infection to appearance of symptoms).
Currently there are about 2000-3000 estimated porn stars who make a living in California by working in the 200 production houses in the city, most do not require the use of condoms. The local government does legalize pornography industry since 1988.
Some well-known porn star who also had contracted STIs, one of Sasha Grey. In an interview with the Curator Magazine, teenagers who were involved in the porn industry since the age of 18 years was admitted two times throughout his career been infected with gonorrhea and chlamydia 1 time.
