Yogyakarta, Since the beginning of December 2011, hepatitis A has struck Yogyakarta, precisely in the District Nanggulan, Kulonprogo. The emergence of this disease is considered related to environmental factors such as shelters stools near water sources.
To date, a total of 94 cases occurring in the territory that lies at the western end of the Yogyakarta Special Province. Fortunately, all patients had been handled properly and currently only 3 people who are still sick and getting treatment.
Outbreak of hepatitis A in Kulonprogo began in the 46th week of 2011, or about the end of December 2011. In his email to reporters, Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health (P2PL) Kemenkes, Prof. Dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama said the peak occurred by week 52, with the number of treated patients reached 28 people.
Hepatitis A is a disease caused by a virus that is spread by fecal-oral route or through the feces of patients who contaminate the food, not through sexual activity or through blood transfusion. Hepatitis A is lighter than most other types of hepatitis.
"Hepatitis A is transmitted through oral, and never happened in this case in the previous Kulonprogo. We suspect there are people who come from outside, then unintentionally transmit the virus," said Dr. Th Baning Rahayujati, Kes, Surveillance Section Chief Medical Officer Kulonprogo.
Baning dr also advised the public to keep the environment clean and maintain sanitation, mainly excreta shelters should be placed away from water sources. Previously, outbreaks Kulonprogo leptopsirosis also been attacked in August-September 2011. Leptopsirosis transmitted from rats to humans through the medium of water.
Sanitation problem is also shared by the Head of Nanggulan Health Center, Dr. Wake. According to him, some residents have fecal shelter near the pond. This makes hepatitis A virus spreads through contaminated water and are not sterilized properly.
