Jakarta, When in a cold room or air-conditioned, sometimes one feels chills. This is because shivering is one of the ways used by the body to warm themselves or to make normal body temperature.

"For example, room temperature 20 degrees, whereas the normal body temperature is 37 degrees, the heating body is shivering," said Prof. Dr. Ir Deddy Muchtadi, MS from the Bogor Agricultural Institute in the event of Pocari Sweat conference 2012 'People's Education on The Importance of Fluids and Ion for Keep Everyday Health 'at Hotel Le Meridien, Jakarta, Saturday (11/02/2012).

Prof. Deddy said if someone uses the jacket so it is one way to keep your body temperature so as not to drop or decrease, so people who normally do not always have jacketed shivered as the cold air.

In addition despite being in the cold air and the body does not sweat, but actually fluid in the body remains in the form of urine expelled and breath. If the fluid is not immediately replaced it can lead to dehydration, which makes the body function can not work optimally.

"For that we still have to drink even if not thirsty when in cold air, because water could serve to stabilize the body temperature," said Prof. Deddy.

Prof. Deddy said dehydration is a common health problem in Indonesia, but unfortunately many do not realize. Symptoms of dehydration, which appear like the skin and dry mouth, decreased urine volume, sweat, saliva, tears without tears and in the later stages can make blood pressure go down and fainted.

The amount of fluid recommended for consumption is 2.7 liters per day for women and 3.7 liters per day for men. But this fluid needs depend on the activities undertaken, temperature and humidity of the environment and type of food consumed.

In addition, drinking plain water alone is not enough, because the ions in the body is also reduced and need to be replaced. Ion that is widely available in the body such as sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and phosphate.

"If someone really wants salt, can mean the person is an electrolyte deficiency. If the body's sodium levels are too low can cause symptoms such as mental disorientation (confusion), nausea and fatigue that can lead to muscle cramps that cause seizures," said Prof. Deddy.
