Jakarta, Cipto Mangunkusumo back handle cases of conjoined twins, this time attached to the head. Operation female conjoined twins who each named Syakira and Zahira is thought not easy because there is no bulkhead that separates the two brain.

Conjoined twins Syakira Ainani Hutami and Zahira Ainani Hutami Utomo Edy was born of the couple (30 years) and Siti Maryam (31 years), residents Sindangpulo, Koja, North Jakarta. Both were born in good health, at 37 weeks gestation weighing 4.5 kg by Caesarean section on 16 November 2011 at Cipto Mangunkusumo.

Syakira and Zahira had conditions attached head or Techspeak kraniopagus. His position is attached at the top of the head, the face of one of these babies on your side making it difficult both to lie on your back in the same time.

However, in general good condition and stable. There was a disturbance such as fever up and down during care at Cipto Mangunkusumo but on this day when the first phase of operation will be performed, both are very stable condition.

"The conditions today are quite good and stable. But still there is a risk of bleeding during surgery or an infection in the treatment afterwards," says Prof. Dr. Dr. Bambang Supriyatno, SpA (K), chairman of the doctors who deal with the separation of conjoined twins Syakira and Sahira in a press conference at the hospital Cipto Mangunkusumo, Wednesday (01/11/2012).

Because of the attached part is the head, then the biggest challenge facing physicians is the condition of some blood vessels in the head are fused. Therefore neurosurgeons must be extra careful to separate them to avoid damage to blood vessels or the nervous system connected to it.

The biggest risk in this operation is bleeding, which if not anticipated can lead to death. While the long-term risks include postoperative infections, impaired growth and development and the worst is death.

Twins conjoined at the head of the condition is quite rare, only occurs in 1 in 2.5 million live births.

Siti Maryam, mother of twins is a new claim to know the condition of the fetus since the months-8. This condition is not detected when the check in the health center, and new light when it was referred to Cipto Mangunkusumo for examination Ultra Sonography (ultrasound).

"There is no special preparation prior to birth, just check the diligent, industrious," said Siti who attended accompanied by her husband, Edy Utomo.

Problem operating costs, the couple Edy and Siti hope fully on the Certificate of Disadvantaged facilities. As a construction worker, Edy income of only Rp 30 thousand per day obviously can not be relied upon to cover operating costs estimated to reach Rp 500 million.
