Jakarta, Malnutrition in children is still a problem in Indonesia. Known until the year 2011 there are about 1 million children in Indonesia who suffered malnutrition.

"There are about 1 million malnourished children in Indonesia among the 240 million population of Indonesia," said Director of Nutrition Maternal and Child Health Kemenkes Dr. Dr. Slamet Riyadi Yuwono, DTM & H, MARS, in the seminar Hospital Expo at JCC, Jakarta, Wednesday (19 / 10/2011).

Dr. Slamet said are mostly located in eastern Indonesia in areas such as NTT and the Moluccas. One factor penyebanya because of their geography such as distance from health facilities.

Dr. Slamet further explained there are three things that can cause the child has severe malnutrition, namely:
1. Factor availability of food, in this case related to the sale and purchase such as the unavailability of adequate food.
2. Behavior factors, such as food available in the area but the way he did not set correctly as the new boy was given a banana a month why not just be breastfed exclusively.
3. Factors of education, lack of education in the community.

"For that to be seen what the cause, then the solution can be found such as how to increase people's income, or some that provide supplementary feeding," says Dr. Slamet

Intake of adequate nutrition should have been done during pregnancy until the age of the children (the golden period), this due to lack of nutrition can affect the child's intelligence and growth.

Handling the problem of malnutrition is a serious need to get attention because poor nutrition is not just associated with disease
but also have an impact on height growth that is making children become short.

One long-term solutions that can be given is that people should receive counseling about the importance of nutrition and how to process food properly. And education about hygiene, good sanitation should be sought in accordance with its economic capabilities.
