
Jakarta, the benefits of tea has been more often associated with the content of antioxidants in it that can inhibit cancer and the aging process. And drinking tea regularly also provide other benefits, one of which prevents bone loss.
A recent study in Taiwan proved, industrious women who drank tea less frequently affected by osteoporosis or thinning of bone mass. Research conducted by experts from Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, published in the Journal of Family Medicine.
Led by Dr. Chang Ying-fan, this study involving 368 women, average age 65 years. Quoted from Timeslive, Monday (4/19/2011), 60 of whom had a habit of drinking tea on a daily basis while the remaining 308 rarely or only occasionally drank tea.
Based on the results of the bone and filling the questionnaire, 46.7 percent of women who drank tea diligently developing osteoporosis in later life. The number is smaller when compared to those who rarely drank tea, which is 63.3 percent.
Dr. Ying-fan believe, at least there are 2 components in tea that are beneficial fluoride and flavonoids inhibit bone loss that increases bone density. In addition, polyphenols and tannin compounds are believed to contribute to maintaining bone density.
This finding is contrary to the opinion of some experts who say that the tea is as dangerous as coffee, because it triggers bone loss. The opinion was based on the nature of caffeine content in tea and coffee are shed via urine calcium in bones.
The benefits of tea for bone has also been expressed previously by researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In that study, three components of green tea is proven merit in maintaining bone density is epigallocatechin (EGC), gallocatechin (GC) and gallocatechin gallate (GCG).
Osteoporosis is a type of bone damage suffered by most women, especially after menopause. This damage is triggered by a decrease in bone density making it more susceptible to cracks and fractures, especially in the hip, wrist and spine.
