London, As judged discriminatory, to be a ban on gay blood donors in England finally repealed. But there are still conditions to be met, namely gay that would be a donor should not have sex in the last 10 years.

The provision was implemented to ensure that potential donors are completely free from infection Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). By not having sex for 10 years, is expected if indeed HIV positive then the virus will be detected on examination.

HIV can escape from the examination if it is still in the window period, ie when the virus is still active. When a gay man infected with HIV, then the next few months is a time window and are not necessarily detectable virus in their blood.

10 years were considered sufficient to determine whether a free gay HIV through blood tests. The window period for HIV is generally only a few months, so that if in 10 years of not doing risky sexual activity then the blood test results would be more accurate.

This new policy will be announced by the UK Public Health Minister, Anne Milton in the coming weeks. Quoted from the Telegraph, Monday (4/11/2011), this policy has also received support from various parties including the UK Ministry of Equality.

Homosexuals, especially gay was banned in England for a blood donor because it is considered a high risk of transmitting HIV. According to data from Terrence Higgins Trust in 2009, HIV infection is most prevalent in England in which 42 percent of gay men.

However, the prohibition to donate blood judged discriminatory by human rights groups concerned because not all gays behave unsafe. Not a few gay couples who are faithful with regular or even celibacy aka no sex at all.
