Spices that can be a panacea

Jakarta, Spices typically used as a spice in cooking and herbal medicine. But some types of spices can also be used as a panacea. There are at least 5 kinds of spices that can be used as medicine. What?

Spices can be derived from the seeds, roots, modern day, flowers, buds, bark or fruit of plants. In addition to cooking spices, spices are high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory can prevent and treat various chronic diseases.

Here are 5 kinds of spices that can be used as a panacea, as reported by Huffingtonpost, Monday (6/13/2011):

1. Turmeric
Turmeric is used extensively to give a yellow color to any dish. Curcurmin active ingredient in turmeric has been widely tested and researched to have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. Turmeric is also known as the spice of anti-cancer, cure Alzheimer's disease, improve immune function, improve digestion and can reduce the risk of heart attack. Scientists also are studying curcumin as a treatment for cystic fibrosis.

2. Ginger
Research has shown that ginger is effective in preventing symptoms of motion sickness, especially seasickness. In addition, it can also be useful in reducing nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Ginger contains inflammation-fighting substance called gingerol, which can help reduce pain and improve function in people with arthritis.

3. Rosemary
Rosemary contains substances that have anti-inflammatory effects, which can enhance immune function and circulation, and reduce the severity of asthma attacks. Often used as aromatherapy, it also improves memory and cognition.

4. Coriander
Coriander is often used in Mexican cuisine. Spices are rich in protective phytochemicals, and are good sources of iron, magnesium and manganese.

5. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is known to reduce inflammation and recent studies show that cinnamon is also very beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes.

In one study, consuming less than 1 / 4 cinnamon per day can reduce blood sugar in diabetics about 20 percent and lowering triglycerides, LDL (bad cholesterol) and total cholesterol. On the other hand, cinnamon gum may also improve attention and memory.
